**This invaluable worksheet is your compass for writing a clearly communicated design brief, an essential tool for working with creative partners worldwide. It makes sure your creative vision is understood and executed brilliantly.**

Use this worksheet to scribble, jot down, brainstorm and map out all your thoughts. The result is a robust, clearly communicated brief you can use with any creative partner.

## Who are you?

Share up-to-date details of your company and industry, your position in the market (leader, established, safe, start-up), your key USPs and a general overview.

## Why are you exhibiting?

This is the key question. Answer it clearly and every other part of the brief falls into place. Your answer should reflect your agreed marketing strategy, combining big-picture goals with specific business unit goals.

Frequent answers include: we always go to the show; we’re testing whether it’s worthwhile; we’re launching a new product or service; to maintain or make business contacts; our competitors will be there; to support our largest client; or because exhibiting is part of an integrated annual marketing strategy.

**Think about**

- Goals: how are they currently being communicated?
- Language and imagery: is it working and resonating with your target audience?
- Visitor profile: does the show’s audience align with your target audience and goals?
- Target: which visitors do you want to meet, and what level of conversation is needed: overview, detailed or technical?

## What does success look like?

Which outcomes would make exhibiting worthwhile, and which aspects can be measured against your overall spend? For example: lead data collected, at-show meetings, post-show meetings arranged, presentation audiences or confirmed sales.

## What are the project details?

Exhibition, dates and location; stand size and configuration; and the exhibitor manual link and password. Add your budget guidelines and sustainability goals (see our budgeting and sustainability guides) and your marketing plan for before, during and after the show.

## What does the space need?

Separate your must-haves from your nice-to-haves, and check that every must-have supports why you’re exhibiting.

**Consider**

- Products and services to be displayed
- Existing graphics that must be included
- Storage: what for? Each square metre is expensive.
- Reception desk
- Meeting rooms
- Comfortable or café-style seating
- Bar
- Product displays and TV screens
- Presentation theatre, and for how many people
